I would suggest using the 32-bit version of Claws Mail, even if your
Windows OS is 64-bit, due to better stability of that version.

On Unix-shaped operating systems, there is a nice set of utilities at
http://www.five-ten-sg.com/libpst/, one of which can convert PST
directly to a MH format. No idea about what is available for Windows,
though.

Yes, Claws Mail works with Gmail's POP3 and SMTP, or with any other
server supporting these protocols.
