AFAIAA, it's not possible to select the column it operates on.  I
suspect, but don't know for sure, it would be a source code change and
recompile.  I don't know my way around the CM code anywhere well enough
to know where to start looking.

I can never remember the rules part, but I do know what I've named
(most) of them.  Searching the name part seems, to me at least, the most
sensible option.

Yes, it only does matching from the beginning.

True, but the substring matching is a limitation of GTK, not Claws.
