I would, wouldn't I?  If there's a way to get things wrong, I will find
it!

Yep.  Went there, clicked on "Rebuild folder tree" (which was of
course *not* greyed out!) and it worked like a charm.

All is well now.  The system seems to be amazingly robust, given that
it can stand up to my fumbling ineptitude.
