Thanks Dustin.  It probably *would* help were it not for my abysmal
ignorance!

One thing that looked promising to me was

    File -> Synchronise folders

but this is greyed out.  That in itself might be indicative of a
problem, but I have no idea what to do about it.  Any suggestions?
