DM: Hi, Jeremy. Yeah, I think I saw something recently on this list or
a bug report or something where someone had a different sort of issue
related to using Wayland. If you're able to, it would probably be good
to try to test this issue with an alternative (X11?) to see if that
makes a difference -- that would likely be helpful for both you and the
Claws Mail developers to know.

DM: Yes, anything that is version 4.x is GTK-3. Versions 3.x were
GTK-2, but those are no longer being supported, if I remember right.
Also, you may have already seen it, but Paul (developer) made a comment
on this thread to the effect that it's unlikely that this would be a
GTK3 theme issue.

DM: Thanks for clarifying this -- the more [possibly relevant] details,
the better, when reporting an issue. 🙂️ Again, you may have already
seen this on this thread, but I'll also mention here that Paul
(developer) commented that the message view being closed seems to be
"key" to the issue. I haven't yet received confirmation from him on it,
but this may mean that he has been able to reproduce the issue, not
sure.

DM: Also, not sure if this would be of any help, but you could try
running Claws from the terminal with the '--debug' option, go through
the process of reproducing the issue, and then look at the terminal
output to see if there is any related information that might be useful.
