FWIW, I'm running Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS (noble) with GNOME 46.0 and Wayland
and Yaru-blue-dark GTK theme. I'm really not up to speed with the latest
GNOME happenings, but I've heard rumors that Wayland changes the way
some things work. Maybe this is related.

I have claws mail version 4.2.0-2build7 installed from the Ubuntu
universe default repositories.

This version of claws is GTK version 3, right?

I have tried with both 1 second delay and 0 second delay, and I see the
same behavior.

Yes, I am trying to leave the message view closed, open the message in a
new window, and use the 'N' and 'P' keys to switch between messages.
