I do not know if it is easier, but in TB one can add "identities",
that is IMO more understandable for inexperienced user, while it is
basically the same... What i consider more simple in CM is, that i have
all "accounts" in one list, not need to search somewhere else, as i
recently need in TB and find it tooks some time for me.

Perhaps that confuses of OP: "SMTP only" account is the same
as identity. Ignore the "account" word, it is (sender's) identity...

Selecting proper identity on reply works, but it requires to be that
identity listed in To: header (i am not sure with CC: and so), It
doesn't work eg. if message is received. from maillist -- here sorting
to different folder (mailbox) and setting default sender in its
preferences helps.

BTW, setting setting From: in template doesn't work for me, when i
choose replace on template load. At least, the From: and signature is
not reloaded...
