hello claws experts,
I am using claws for > 10 years now, and all in all i am quite happy.
thanks to you all for all your contributions :)
there is however one behaviour which is quite nasty, and i repeatedly
observered it all the time when connecting via slower networks:
whenever the bandwidth (or sth equivalent) goes below some quality and
claws tries to get messages the app freezes, some minutes later it does
not even correctly keep it window redrawn when switching to another
screen and back.
I am currently using
5.14.21-150500.55.36-default #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Tue Oct 31
08:37:43 UTC 2023 (e7a2e23) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
on opensuse leap 15.5 and good old fvwm2 as window manager.
my current version of claws is 4.3.0
But as written before: all this was observed the past 10 years whenever
trying to use (mobile) networks with weak signal etc.
As a software developer i tried digging into the code myself, but
failed to understand the general architecture: threads etc.
Because: how can a bad network connection cause the GUI behaviour to
stop reacting ? thats why they invented multithreading ages ago ... ;)
As an attachment you find the output of a claws run started with
claws --debug --offline
then the offline button was deactivated manually and the 'get' button
was clicked.
You see that near the end the pop session starts, then ends at the end
of my log file. I had to kill after some more minutes.
what can i do to support any further analysis ?
thanks, Martin.
