My fonts were all messed up by the change from the ClawsMail 3 series to
ClawsMail 4. Maybe a similar upgrade has triggered your problem? I
assumed it was something to do with how GTK was set up making some
previously available fonts no longer available.

Using Cascadia Mono SemiLight turns out to be good for messages instead
of whatever I had before that stopped working.
