I'll investigate and see if your points 2 or 3 will solve it.

I would say to the developers that in other apps selected text goes
white when the bg color goes orange, preserving visibility, and keeping
it black seems to go against this default theme. Personally I'll be
happy to make the bg a paler orange across the board.
