I'm not using bash. But regardless, I think you mean that the umask
setting is irrelevant here.

The /Help/About list does not contain anything related to this
issue. I assume the reason is that it only lists changes from 4.1.0
to 4.1.1 and I upgraded from 3.17.8

Found it.

It surely is. However, it means that no one except me can view or
edit the saved files. I save many attachments every day and store
them on a shared directory. Others are supposed to read and modify
them. This is a big inconvenience.

I'd strongly vote for that. This change makes using claws-mail very
cumbersome in a workgroup setting.
