[Users] characters before the ">" in a quoted line

Hi Claws Mail users,

What characters would you expect could be placed before a quote
character while making the line remain a quote?

To me it seems like a bug that there are many characters which could
be, but I want to check the users' expectations before submitting a
report or trying to fix it.

e.g.
!@#$%^&*()> this line displays as a quote in my Claws
       > this line also displays as a quote in my Claws
