Just curious, but are you using a Wayland session for your upgraded
Ubuntu? It's the new default in Ubuntu in 22.04 and one of the things
it changes is how or whether programs can interact with one another.

Here's a command you can use in a terminal window to find out which
session type you're running:

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

The terminal will give you either an "X11" or "Wayland" response.

If it says you're using the Wayland session type, you might want to
try using the X11 session type by logging out and logging in again,
but click the gear icon and choose the "GNOME on Xorg" session
type before you type your password in.

If that solves it, you might want to leave it that way to keep using
X11, at least for now. Ubuntu will "remember" the choice you made, so
you won't need to make it every time you log in.

If that doesn't solve it, you can go back to using the Wayland
session type again from then on by logging out and back in again,
clicking the gear icon again, and choosing the "Wayland" session type
before you type your password in.
