[Users] Unable to authorize

After obtaining an 0Auth2 client id and secret, the
opening of the default browser (firefox) proceeds as normal until
logging in to Google. At that point the browser hangs, eventually
complaining that it can't connect to server at 127.0.0.1.8888.
Presumably this is a local problem.

If I use the URL produced by "Copy link", the browser waits a while and
then complains that a connection error has occurred. The internet
connection is good, and the google problem is repeatable.

Nothing has changed on the local system  (that I'm aware of). Any
suggestions?
