To try to be clearer, webkit is not discontinued or vulnerable, but the old
version for gtk2 is discontinued and security problems go unfixed. And it is
this old gtk2 version you would need for Claws Mail 3.17.3. (3.17.3 is 18
months old and several releases behind, you should upgrade to the latest
release.)

The newer (actively developed) webkit is used by the Fancy plugin in the gtk3
version of Claws Mail.
