You probably have NetworkManager support built in. (See the Features tab on
/Help/About to confirm this.)

What NetworkManager support does is to automatically set online mode or
offline mode depending on your connection.

If Network Manager is misbehaving then you can disable it in
~/.claws-mail/clawsrc, setting use_networkmanager to 0 while claws-mail is
not running.

If none of this applies, then you probably just need to set 'online mode'
either from the /File menu or from the button next to the account selector at
the bottom right of the main window.
