[Users] Error occurred on authentication ??

version 3.17.4
Kubuntu 19.10

This is a somewhat similar problem as discussed at
https://lists.claws-mail.org/pipermail/users/2020-May/026192.html
( [Users] Claws Mail using 100% CPU )

Whilst it isn't causing high CPU, I'm now getting "error occurred on
authentication" on EXACTLY the same account as the high CPU issues. I
did attempt to chase the high CPU and timeouts with the ISP, however
they required more detailed information or suggested I use a different
email client.

Running Claws with the debug option ..

===============

There are 10 POP accounts setup with Claws. Two of those are email
accounts with ISP aussiebroadband.com.au , and both those two are
failing to connect with authentication errors. The login details have
not been changed. Looking at the Claws network log the last few days,
the other 8 POP3 accounts all connect within one second, yet it seems
the 'aussiebroadband.com.au' fail after 5 seconds. Notice this ..

[2020-06-19 15:07:47] POP> PASS ********
[2020-06-19 15:07:52] POP< -ERR Login failed.

the 5 seconds, whilst all the other POP3 accounts login within 1 second
??

The only setting I can find in Claws is the timeout one, and because of
the high CPU issues I had to set that to 53 seconds. Is there a Claws
setting somewhere that determines some sort of login timeout or similar
?

The ISP asked for more details, yet the Claws debug won't really tell
them anything. Is there some sort of command I can issue to give me
more info being returned from their email server ? Like a telnet login
or similar, high level of details coming back from the email server
side ?

What is strange is that my actual ISP to connect to the internet IS
this ISP. GMail and Yahoo accounts and another server have no problems
at all. The network speed is very good, lots of bandwidth.

Regards,

Peter
