Which also means one corrupt file and thousands of messages are lost.
Claws Mail, on the other hand, uses MH mailbox format by default, where each
message is one file.

Mbox files can be imported using /File/Import mbox file...
This is, again. mentioned in the FAQ.

But if MBOX format is your thing, you can use the mailMBOX plugin to use MBOX
directly.
