The same problem is in gedit too. Select some text in gedit, click on a blank
line, try to paste with the middle click mouse button. Nothing is pasted.

If the selection remains highlighted then you can paste the primary as much
as you want. As soon as you click somewhere else it's lost.

This is the same in claws-mail.

I spent some time trying to find a solution, but failed. Therefore, I agree
that it is a GTK problem.
