Last time I checked, GTK integration was indeed the biggest problem. PyGTK
didn't support Python 3, and PyGI didn't support GTK+2. So porting the plugin
for Claws Mail, which is still based on GTK+2, to Python 3 isn't easily
possible.

As you proved, one could just use the plugin with Python 3 without GTK+
integration, but that means dropping most of the functionality of the plugin..
