I gave the top-posting example. Here is the same example but reversed
to demonstrate bottom-posting:

Q: What is the most annoying thing in e-mail?
A: Top-posting.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.

I'm not sure how to make it any clearer.

In Claws Mail you can collapse quotes by default, toggling their
collapsed/expanded state with a double-click. That's another option.
It does rely on correspondants using the standard quote symbol (>)
though.
