Opinions are very different among the developers, some do not want to
touch C++ at all, others would like to abandon GTK+.
For what it's worth, I have started work on a Qt port a while ago, and
still work on it every now and then. But since it basically means a
complete rewrite from scratch, it is moving slowly.
It is available at http://git.claws-mail.org/?p=claws-qt.git;a=summary
It's not secret, but it is not listed on git.claws-mail.org because it
still remains to be seen if it will go somewhere. So far, it's mostly
my little playground where I play with Qt. :)
Back to your original question, for now, probably the safest bet is to
focus on current codebase using GTK+2, and to try not to introduce too
much code incompatible with GTK+3. :)
