Perhaps it's easier to just always automaticly insert one (and only one) whitespace between text and quotemarks, as a separator. That leaves a few users who want to have a very smart quoting like "|" and no whitespace, to minimize space; but seriously, until clasw is not going smartphone, for real, it shouldn't be a huge problem.
