I'm on a Debian Wheezy system, and there's a gui package called "Gtk-ChTheme"
that I've installed, works fine for changing the GTK theme. In case it's
helpful, here are package details:

gtk-chtheme:
  Installed: 0.3.1-5
  Candidate: 0.3.1-5
