The typical cause for this is that NetworkManager tells Claws Mail that
the network is offline. Check Tool -> Network Log if that is also the
cause in your case.

The fix is of course not to have a lying NetworkManager on your
machine.

The workaround from Claws Mail is the hidden preference
"use_networkmanager".
