It could be that you have "overlay-scrollbar-gtk2" (or similarly
named) installed. This, it appears, tries to be smart but actually
messes things up badly. It has been the cause of some modal window
misbehaviour in Claws. If you've got it installed, remove it and see
if the problem goes away.

Unity is just a desktop. Claws will work on ubuntu.
