Both OpenOffice and LibreOffice auto-correct use a provided dictionary
of common misspellings. The OP wrote:

They work differently. The proposed feature can be used to perform
almost any string substitution or replacement. One of the provided
examples is not a spelling correction at all. Since it does something
different it should be given a different name, one that accurately
represents what it actually does.
