Yes, and you are not the first to tell. It's clearly only occuring under comparably rare circumstances.

Well, kernel 3.x that implies how the the nvidia driver cooperates, in a chain like: GTK theme uses some feature that makes nvidia depend on something that is in the kernel, and was different pre-3.x and got screwed now.

It would imply that it occurs on any GeForce7300 with nvidia 290.x but it will be hard to find someone else running exactly that.

It should be mentioned that nvidia is not doing well in terms of linux - anything is proprietary and the driver is split into the kernel module and an external nvidia-glx thing, and many many small libraries. To me this is a full mess. When i decided for nvdidia in the first place, some years ago, they still had good reputation but that vanished very quickly.

----

For another comparison, i just installed a full KDE session (with plasma desktop) and there the plasma engine seems to somehow determnine the claws theme, is that possible ? Or they install a different type of GTK theme engine ? Because claws had the standard Oxygene look very similar to the KDE apps.

And now i was surprised, switching workspaces -> Claws redrawing was so fast that i could not even notice any delay at all. It was even faster than the true Plasma apps.

However, the very long delay when quitting the application (File -> Exit) was still there. And again, only with GTK apps, not with KDE apps (Plasma in this case, not QT)

I believe this proves that on my machine, GTK does not work well with the GPU driver, and at least to me the conclusion is that i must turn to the GTK developers. It is clearly not something Claws can do anything about.
