[Users] GUI redraws itself slowly

Is is all ext3 here. (And i would not set noatime on the root filesystem either).

Please note that the same time GTK is slow, QT is not slow at all. While GTK shows the difference depending on kernel version, QT is always the same. What are they doing differently ? 
How would a pure kernel issue, or any filesystem feature, lead to that fact ? 

There must be something in GTK that does not work with kernel 3.x.
I just can not see any other possible interpretation. But YMMV.
