[Users] Using colors in compose message

Hi folks;
How does one go about highlighting a selection when composing a message?  I
occasionally wish to emphasize a few words in a message I'm sending in some
color besides black.

I suspect this has to do with some escape code around the words to be
emphasized but haven't been able to find it in the FAQs or list.
