Now we've seen more of the log output, yes, authentication succeeds, but
authenticating on the NNTP server. Your SMTP server is a different server
altogether.
For the SMTP AUTH preferences you don't just need to enable SMTP AUTH but
also need to fill the rest of the details in that frame, so you can actually
authenticate on mail.privateemail.com.
