But you are not telling us what is wrong in your case with using
folders and theirs properties to achieve something, as suggested by
somebody in this thread. All mail users I know but casual ones use some
kind of folder structure to help in organising emails. This naturally,
at least in my eyes, leads to some filtering, even when done manually,
and moving mails into dedicated folders.
Anyway, in 'Compose message window', you can change 'From:' field
manually in any way you like. Is my understanding right you would like
to get this header adjust automatically according to some, not yet to
me known, criteria?
My use case is different, I use server side filtering (with IMAP)
extensively, but for various reason, I am using many mail addresses as
well. At present, I have five account configured, with mailboxes
located on five different servers, one of them using many different
addresses, with three different domains.
Important part for me is, when replying, my reply should come from the
same address as the one the message was received to. Fortunately, my
mail server delivery process places 'Delivered-To' header at first line
of message file, so it is easy to extract this information from headers
and use it to set.
For mails originated by me, as opposed to being a reply to somebody's
mail, I use various measures to set 'From:' header the way I like.
Sometimes via folder property, sometimes via custom toolbar button,
sometimes manually.

Milan
