[Users] Kubuntu upgrade caused disaster!

 Some accounts have codes next to them, others have "recv !SrVFP/jQGtQ=", which I assume means no password. I get prompts to enter a password.
I don't understand why I don't have passwords in a file that was backed up in August when the problem only appeared yesterday. But maybe I should just go through everything and try to reset it if it isn't just a question of restoring a backup.
Unless you have a better idea,

Do you see stored passwords in passwordstorerc?

Are you saying that when you try to send a mail or fetch mail you are being
prompted to enter the password?
