[Users] claws waits forever, freezes grafik on slower networks

trying again :

as long as the GUI reacts at all, i can click either on 'close' or
'view log'. And that than happens: the displayed dialog is closed, or
the log is displayed, dependent on what I decide to click on.

nothing else happens, the 'Get Mail' button remains gray forever.
And nothing happens on the terminal any more.

but soon after I typically cant do anything else anymore at all with the
app. And since i am not staring at the mail program all the
time, the usual situation I am ending up with is a totally frozen app.

BTW: i think i never observed an 'unfreeze'. Once frozen it stayes that
way, even if the network comes back with good quality.

most of the time a CTRL-C in the invoking terminal does the kill, but
sometimes i have to manually kill 2 (or more) processes using kill -9
before I can restart claws.

Another observation:
before such freezes happen typed characters into a new mail are not
displayed immediately. After some seconds the missing ones get displayed
in a moment. That happens even on better networks.
