did not work w/ same behaviour.

justin case, i tried that too after creating 2 new folders under the provider's account root folder (as NS and NQ) and switching their [Folder Type] from 'Normal' to 'Outbox' for NS and 'Queue' for NQ --didn't see a 'Send' option in the dropdown list. sending now goes a bit further but ultimately also fails. journalctl shows...

i think your earlier prognosis of this being a provider issue is the case. the 'session timeout' message in the log is IMHO a proof i can use when talking to the email provider tech people.
from my end i tried debugging the SMTP connection using telnet. soon after sending the EHLO <my_hostname> command, the connection is closed 'by foreign host.' FWIW my hostname in the outside (as assigned by my internet provider) is effectively my IP v4 address.
thank you and thanks to all who contributed to this thread. if i get it working i'll let you know what was the solution.
