Hello Brad, that was an accurate shot!

I did exactly as you advise - and Fancy viewer works perfectly.
After I-don't-even-know-how-many-years I can display HTML emails again 
in CM! Cool! Many thanks!
(with a slight difference only - Fedora?/Mate DE? has a local location
for .desktop files apparently in ~/.local/share/applications/)
