i recently came back to claws-mail after a long hiatus (mainly because
i came back to linux after using a mac for a long time, and i never
could find a claws-mail build for mac that i was happy with)

FYI - when i set up claws-mail with my gmail a few weeks ago, google no
longer allowed me to configure app passwords at all. they had
completely disabled app passwods for me, and i couldn't find any way to
use them.

so the only way i got CM working with my gmail was through OAUTH2. it
was a major pain but i did eventually get it working.
