My original suggestion holds, make a backup of the entire .claws-mail
directory in your $HOME to somewhere safe.

Once that has been done then you can start trying to fix things, as
others have suggested you can delete everything in your
$HOME/.claws-mail directory, then start CM and create a new
installation and then, after shutting CM down (this is important, don't
manipulate files when it is running), look at the files in the newly
created $HOME/.claws-mail directory and try replacing them gradually
with the versions you have saved (shut CM down each time you copy an
old file in over the new installation version). In particular the .bak
files should be intact, but the various *rc files may have been
corrupted. You can simply rename them by removing the .bak extension
and that should be a good file.

The intention is that you carefully preserve what you have now so that
you can rebuild something that works again. The FAQ and wiki for Claws
should have some information on how these files are named and what each
one does.

Good luck.
