Can you elaborate? Was it lack of money? No knowledgeable programmers?
To difficult a task? Or was
it decided that proxy dns is not required?
I am not a programmer. And I am not able to assess how big a given programmer
task is. I know that thunderbird and icedove have a working proxy
dns option. And it is free software.
Can you tell if the proxy dns software in thunderbird and icedove
is a modular piece of software? That could rather easily get incorporated
in claws mail? Or it would be a major task?
In configuration -> preferences -> proxy
claws mail should add a warning saying: Warning claws mail is prone
for dns leaking.
There might be people who are aware about what socks5 support is. But
they are not aware about the dns leaking matter.
