That did trigger a (possibly faulty) memory: aren't .eml files the type
that Outlook will produce when you ask it to "save email as file"? 
If so, the "getmail_maildir" utility (part of the "getmail package")
can read them directly and store them into an email directory (mbox
or whatever).
