[Users] Does CM strip signatures in replies?

There is an old convention that a signature separator consisting of
'dash dash space' (-- ) followed by a newline is recognised by email
programs and stripped, together with anything below it, from replies.

As well as myself, I have noticed that both Brad Rogers and Little Girl
on this list use such a signature separator, for example.

However, when I reply to messages with a '-- ' sigsep, sometimes
(always?) the trailing space gets lost/ignored, and the signature
remains in the reply, though now it starts with '--'. I have tested
this by sending messages from one account to another, then replying.

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour in CM?
