I did and got this 

Connection to imap.gmail.com failed: login refused.

LOGIN logins only work if libetpan has been compiled with SASL support
and the LOGIN SASL plugin is installed.

Then after the 4th or 5th time of creating and destroying an app pass
it started to work.

having Google mail account is not really worth all that effort.
