With an exception for google workspace and cloud accounts, Google has
announced that they are turning off the use of the site-wide password
for 3rd-party application authentication. So, if you are not using
OAuth2 and are still using your google site-wide password with claws
you can expect it to stop working without further notice.

If you don't want to switch to OAuth2 you can set up a google
app-password and use that instead [1]. That option may be turned off
at some point too, but at least for now google is still supporting
that approach.

If you don't switch to use OAuth2 or app-passwords there's really not
much else that can be done to make claws work with gmail, once google
permanently turns off use of the site-wide password.
