I installed Debian 11 in a new virtual machine but with the Xfce
desktop instead and switched it to Unstable.

Claws Mail (and Thunderbird) successfully connect to the Comcast IMAP
server each and every time. So I think there may be something
network-related that is common to both LXDE and LXQt that prevented
both email applications from connecting to Comcast using those desktops.
