Can't help you (I'm not that knowledgeable) but I just thought that I'd
pitch in the remark that it works fine for me using Claws Mail
version 4.0.0 under Ubuntu 20.04.  This "works fine" includes the
presence of a Preview button.  Sorry I can't be more useful.
