Yes. The G (Get Mail) checkbox is, as the text says, to include those
accounts when you use the Get Mail button.

Sounds like you have automatic mail checking turned on, (see
/Configuration/Preferences/Mail Handling/Receiving), which is indeed
something different from what the G checkbox controls.

(BTW, contrary to Ricardo's response, the G checkbox works for POP, IMAP, and
LOCAL accounts.)
