[Users] Selected message after switching to a folder

Running 3.99git63 on Fedora 33.

In my setup, folders are sorted by date and when switching to a folder, the
first (oldest) of the new messages is selected.

However, when switching to this folder (see attachment), the message
selected is not the first of the new messages.

Any idea what could cause this?
