I do not seem to have this problem.  E.g. I did

echo \U+1D15F

(to get a quarter note symbol; that's not ascii, surely) and copied and
pasted the result, as below:

                  𝅘𝅥  

This seems to have been sent just fine.

P.S. I'm running claws-mail version 3.17.7 under Ubuntu 20.04
with the Mate 1.24.0 desktop.
