HTML is likely involved in the loop... Try this:
- unload Fancy, Dillo, liteHTML if loaded
- select/open message
The following assumes CM doesn't hang here...
- select HTML part (right side icon)
type "l"  (lower L)

May require Configuration/Preferences/Message View/External Programs
   Web Browser--> <path/>firefox --new-window '%s'
      or similar for your browser.

I gave up on the HTML plugins and always use this method with no
problems...
