[Users] Phantom proxy?

Hi, 

When CM3 does a POP check, I often see these messages:
   (cm3:13130): libnotify-WARNING **: 14:48:47.289: Failed to connect to
                                      proxy
When composing, the compose window becomes non-responsive, though it does
queue the keystrokes which appear after the POP check is done.  

I have NEVER used a proxy (for anything) -- any clue as to why I should
ever see this message with no proxy?
